Research originates from the idea that what we see is never simply given, but constructed within the time of vision. It is in this minimal gap that the image can still take place. Pino Musi has always distrusted photography as illustration, and particularly its most codified form when applied to architecture: the tendency to render forms transparent, already understood, already absorbed by the gaze before they are even truly seen. What interests him is rather the moment when this transparency begins to crack. Even when the referent appears evident, what matters is never recognition, but the resistance of form within the duration of the gaze. It is there that photography ceases to be a document and becomes something more unstable: a relation, a tension, an unresolved continuity. Research is not a series, nor a sequence. It is a condition in which images do not accumulate, but call to one another across distance, as if they belonged to a single field of variations. It is not about seeing more, but about restoring time to the visible. And perhaps, today, to see means above all this: to resist its immediate disappearance.
