Solicited to look at the school – or rather the schools located in the historical center and on the outskirts of Naples that are involved in the association Aporema for the Artoteca project – Pino Musi, who never relinquishes shadow or grace his the images, has once again traced a median path, a story of spaces filled and void, of light and mass that perfectly restitutes the meaning of his photographic work and that of the project which led to the release of the first booklet published by Aporema per l’Arte, La fotografia ri-guarda la Scuola [Photography looks at the school]. The Artoteca project tackles with the unusual encounter between contemporary art and the school, between students and artists, to produce hybrid objects that are neither artworks nor didactic exercises, but creations that clearly demonstrate a sense of dialogue and confrontation; Pino Musi looks at the school, four schools, interpreting and restituting their complexity as much as their contradictions. These photographs do not distinctly show the raucous student life, faculty, dust and odors, worries and tensions; instead, everything is translated by means of subtraction, ellipse, dissimulation, absence: the beauty of these images is, again, an oxymoron that combines, as Baudelaire pointed, an eternal component and an ephemeral component (and this is not only because each view comes with a caption that not only precisely mentions shooting location but also time and date).
